I love cake. Plain and simple. Cake is sweet and moist, it satisfies cravings, it can be any flavor, and it never asks if you are sure you should have that second slice. Cake is your friend. Until you step on the scale... Yes, it's then that you realize cake can only ever be a casual acquaintance, seen at holidays, parties, and the occasional tryst at your local bakery that you hope no one finds out about! Cake is like a childhood crush... you don't think about it on a daily basis, but just seeing it makes your tummy flutter. Just... one... slice!

My name is Melissa, and I have been an Iowan my entire life. Now, a lot of people say they want to get out of Iowa... into bigger and better places, but I have to say they are painfully misguided. Iowa is the most wonderful place to be! Smack dab in the Midwest, we have all the best there is to offer, from small towns full of friendly faces, to large cities full of high-society places!  if you want it, it's in Iowa. Ok, we don't have an Ocean, but we have the mightiest river of all, the Mighty Muddy Mississippi! We have some of the best schools in the country, making Iowa a wonderful place to raise a family, and if there is one thing we know... it's how to COOK!

Cooking and baking are my passions... There is little else that makes me feel as good about myself as seeing someone enjoy something I have made with my own two loving hands. The look on their face when they bite into something that pleases them is just a wonderful experience. I was a gifted chef from a very young age, and can cook nearly anything. Some people like to cook, others like to bake, some just have specialty dishes that they are known for, but I do it all. I love everything except doing the dishes afterward! My love of baking spread to decorating cakes when my Mother, a cooking genius in her own right,  taught me a few 'basic moves'. She was making a cake and I asked her how she made the flowers. She handed me the frosting bag and a tiny dowel rod, explained how to do it and I whipped out an almost perfect rose on my first try. She was amazed, and we knew she had handed down 'the gift'.

Make no mistake... I do not make dry, flavorless, cakes. My cakes are great to look at, but more importantly, they taste like a slice of heaven. You may be able to get a cake at the grocery store, or the bulk food club at a slight discount, but it will never taste anything like mine! Once you've tried my cakes and sweets, you'll never look at a 'store bought' cake the same again! Using a special (albeit top secret) recipe, the cake itself is flavorful and always moist, and the frosting is versatile, allowing you to choose which flavor you like most, and enhance it. Many people have tried to get my recipe, alas, it's a trade secret. And speaking of versatile... I offer almost any imaginable combination of flavors! If you don't see what you want listed anywhere, that just means I haven't gotten around to adding it to the list. Make a suggestion and I will create it! I love trying new things, so challenge me!! Almost nothing is impossible when you have a little gumption, and a true love of dessert! The proof is in the pudding... or in this case, the batter. You will love my cake, or I'll eat it for you! :)
